● Canadian therapist search online
The test search looks for published profile information that matches what you asked for. A strong match means the indexed information supports all of the conditions in your search. If a detail is not found, that does not mean the therapist does not offer it. Results are not ratings or endorsements.

Known major-city markers use city coordinates. Smaller-community markers are placed approximately within their province to demonstrate geographic coverage and should not be interpreted as exact office locations.

Choose a province, then a city

Browse locations before choosing how to search

Open one province at a time to see its represented communities. Selecting a city fills the location fields for the therapist search. Add or revise the concern in the main search box above.

How the search decides which profiles to show

The names shown are not random and they are not paid rankings. The search looks at therapist profile information and the words and location entered by the visitor to find the closest matches.

1

Understand the request

The visitor can describe a concern in ordinary language rather than selecting one rigid category.

2

Compare with profile information

The search compares your words with information available in therapist profiles.

3

Use your location

If you choose a city or province, the search uses it to narrow the results.

4

Show each therapist once

Each therapist appears once in the results so the list is easier to review.

Therapists matching your search

Strong matches are supported by published profile information for all structured conditions found in your question. Additional profiles may match part of your request.

Enter a concern or choose a browse option to begin.
Not found in published evidence does not mean the therapist does not offer it.

Frequently asked questions about therapy and this directory

Practical information about choosing a therapist, credentials, fees, insurance, online therapy, confidentiality and privacy.

How do I find the right therapist for me on this site?+

Start by entering the concern, life challenge, or type of support you are looking for in the search box. You can also add a city and select a province when location matters.

CanadianTherapists.ca compares the meaning of your request with information contained in therapist profiles. Review the returned profiles and contact the therapist directly to confirm their availability, fees, insurance options, virtual services, and whether they may be a good fit for your needs.

Finding the right therapist can take time. A search result is simply a starting point, not a commitment to begin therapy.

Are all therapists listed on this site licensed or verified?+

Professional credentials and regulation vary across Canada. Some therapists are registered with a provincial regulatory college, while others hold professional certifications or memberships with recognized associations.

Directory inclusion does not mean CanadianTherapists.ca has independently verified every credential. Visitors should confirm credentials directly with the therapist and, where possible, through the appropriate public register, regulatory college, or professional association.

Always ask a therapist about their education, registration, experience, and areas of practice before beginning treatment.

What is the difference between a psychologist, psychotherapist, counsellor, and social worker?+

These professionals may all provide counselling or psychotherapy, but their education, professional designation, and permitted services can differ.

Psychologists generally hold graduate-level training in psychology. Depending on their province, registration category, and training, they may provide therapy, psychological assessments, and other psychological services.

Psychotherapists and counsellors commonly hold graduate-level education in counselling, psychotherapy, psychology, or a related field. They help clients work through emotional concerns, relationships, life changes, trauma, and mental-health challenges using different therapeutic approaches.

Registered social workers hold education in social work and may provide counselling while also considering how family, community, relationships, finances, housing, and other life circumstances affect a person’s well-being.

Professional titles, education requirements, and permitted services vary by province. Review each therapist’s profile and ask what services they are trained and authorized to provide.

How do I know which type of therapy is right for me?+

You do not need to choose a therapy approach before contacting a therapist.

The most suitable approach may depend on your concerns, goals, personality, history, and whether you prefer structured exercises or more open-ended conversation. Some people prefer practical, skills-based approaches such as cognitive behavioural therapy, while others benefit from trauma-focused, emotion-focused, family, relationship, or insight-oriented therapy.

During an initial consultation, ask the therapist how they would approach your concerns, what methods they use, and what a typical session may involve. A good therapist should explain their approach in language that is easy to understand.

What does therapy cost?+

Therapy fees vary across Canada based on the therapist’s professional designation, experience, location, specialization, session length, and type of service.

Many private individual sessions may cost somewhere around $100 to $200, although some therapists charge less and others charge more. Couples therapy, assessments, specialized services, and longer appointments may have different fees.

Always confirm the current fee directly with the therapist before booking.

What can I do if I cannot afford the full therapy fee?+

Some therapists offer sliding-scale rates based on income or reserve a limited number of reduced-fee appointments. It is reasonable to ask whether reduced-fee options are available.

You may also consider:

group therapy; community counselling agencies; supervised student or intern clinics; employee assistance programs; nonprofit mental-health services; publicly funded programs; services available through a physician or health authority referral.

Availability varies by community and province, so contact the provider directly to confirm eligibility, waiting times, and costs.

Does insurance cover therapy?+

Many extended health insurance plans provide some coverage for mental-health services, but the amount and eligible professional designation vary by policy.

Some plans may cover services provided by psychologists, registered social workers, registered psychotherapists, clinical counsellors, or other recognized professionals. Other plans may limit coverage to specific designations.

Before booking, check your insurance policy or contact your insurer and ask:

which professional designations are covered; how much coverage is available each year; whether a physician’s referral is required; whether the therapist can bill the insurer directly; what information must appear on the receipt.

Always confirm that the therapist’s credential meets your insurance provider’s requirements.

Is online therapy effective?+

Therapist-guided online therapy can be helpful for many concerns and may make treatment more accessible for people who live far from services, have mobility challenges, travel frequently, or prefer meeting from home.

Online therapy may also reduce expenses related to transportation, parking, childcare, or time away from work. However, many therapists charge the same professional fee for online and in-person sessions.

Online therapy is not appropriate for every person or situation. Ask the therapist about privacy, technology requirements, emergency planning, the location from which they are permitted to provide services, and whether online sessions are suitable for your needs.

Is therapy confidential?+

Once you become a therapist’s client, the therapist should explain their privacy practices, record handling, and the limits of confidentiality.

In general, information shared during therapy is treated as private. However, there may be legal or ethical exceptions, including situations involving immediate risk of serious harm, child protection concerns, mandatory reporting requirements, or legally required disclosure.

The exact rules can vary by province, profession, and situation. Ask the therapist to explain confidentiality and its limits before beginning treatment.

Is searching this directory private?+

Searching the CanadianTherapists.ca therapist directory is separate from entering a professional relationship with a therapist.

CanadianTherapists.ca does not participate in private therapy sessions and does not receive the confidential information you later share with a therapist. Before contacting a provider, review the therapist’s own privacy practices and ask how inquiries, appointment information, clinical records, email, and virtual sessions are protected.

For therapists and practice owners

Your practice has the answers. Your profile makes them easier to ask.

A traditional directory may show your name, title, city and phone number. A complete CanadianTherapists.ca profile can turn accurate professional information about your practice into something a prospective client can explore before deciding whether to contact you.

You do not need your own website. If you use a booking platform, clinic page, group-practice profile, professional directory, or simply provide verified information directly, your profile can still become much more useful. Therapists with very little published information have the most to gain by adding accurate details about their services, approaches, populations, fees, session formats, locations and frequently asked questions.
This is not a general AI chatbot. It is an evidence-based search over information associated with your professional profile. When the stored information does not support an answer, the system is designed to say the answer is unavailable rather than invent one.
“Do you work with trauma?”
“Do you offer virtual sessions?”
“Do you use IFS?”
“Do you work with teenagers?”
“What happens in a first appointment?”
“Do you offer a free consultation?”
“Where is your office?”
“What approaches do you use?”
Think of it as the first part of a telephone conversation happening before the prospective client ever calls.
